The Student Support Services Team provides independent support, advice and advocacy for any problems you may encounter while studying at Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP). Services provided include:
- Regular study skills workshops
- One on one learning support
- Pastoral care – health enquiries, relationship problems etc.
- Course information
- Finance and budgeting advice
- Referrals to external agencies such as health and counselling services
- Coping with all aspects of student life
- Independent support and advice
- Disability services
- Maori and Pasifika support
These are all free and fully confidential services.
Counselling services
On the Greymouth Campus a counsellor offers a free, confidential and individual service. The counsellor is available on Tuesdays 11.30am–1.30pm during normal term times. Please check the noticeboard for location details. Please feel free to book an appointment by contacting Student Support Services.
At MAINZ in Auckland, a counsellor is available during the week (please see the Moodle main page and campus noticeboards for times). You can book an appointment at MAINZ Reception.
At MAINZ in Christchurch, Monica Crawford is available for counselling services. Please see the MAINZ noticeboards and check with Reception. Students can also access Moorhouse Medical Centre and book an appointment directly.
Health and wellbeing
Health Nurse
If you have concerns or questions about general health and wellbeing needs, e.g., not sleeping, eating, relationships, or if your needs are more specific, e.g., asthma, epilepsy, pregnancy, STI, contraception, there are arrangement by which we can offer information, advice and support so you can make informed decisions.
Doctor
Greymouth students who wish to access the doctor at a reduced rate need to apply to Work and Income for a community services card and show their Student ID card each time they visit.

Tai Poutini Polytechnic is a signatory to the New Zealand Government Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. The International Student contact staff are available when you need information and advice. Our friendly team can help you with details about:
